The Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Humanitarian Award is created, facilitated and presented by the Phoenixville Area Social Concerns Committee.

Guidelines for nominations for this award are below and should be used when completing this form.

Please be as specific as possible. Attach additional relevant information, if needed, to support the nomination. Thank you for your time and consideration!

NOMINATION GUIDELINES

The following are the guidelines that will be used to select the recipient of the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Humanitarian Award.

 

The Full Name of the Award

The Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Humanitarian Award

Nominations: Nominations for this award are solicited from the public-at-large by the members of the Phoenixville Area Social Concerns Committee and will include justification information submitted by the nominator.

 

Selection: The selection for the award recipient will be made after careful review of each nominee’s merits, presentation of the all nominees to the full Phoenixville Area Social Concerns Committee by a nomination subcommittee—if necessary, and a vote of the full Committee.

 

Award Criteria: The Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Humanitarian Award will be presented to an individual, business (small/large), or community group/ organization who has demonstrated dedication and service in the areas of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. The nominee must have acted consistently in the below areas, within the Phoenixville Area, and embody the message of justice for all and commitment to service the community.

 

Qualifications: Since this award is based upon, but not limited to the following categories the nominee must have some of the qualifications listed below:

  • Raised awareness of social injustice, speak on behalf of justice/injustice, celebrate diversity, and acts on building a better community.

  • Developed an innovative and creative solution to a problem that has been viewed as a societal issue and had the courage to act and persevere in the face of its challenging circumstances in the community and/or service industry.

  • Established, supported and/or invested in programs and the wellbeing of an inclusive future for the Phoenixville Area community. (We want nominations of individuals, businesses and/or organizations that confront the issues faced by children/community through positive/effective programs/activities and advocacy.)

  • Provided a service and/or advocated for the marginalized. (We are in search of individuals/businesses and/or organizations that provide services and/or advocacy for human rights.)

  • Demonstrates an emerging or have sustained a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts in the community and/or their organization. (We are looking for nominations that have a history and/or action plan that provides diversity, equity and inclusiveness. Also, any that can demonstrate how their efforts resulted in deep- rooted benefits to their company and/or the Phoenixville Area.)

  • Lived, worked, or existed in the greater Phoenixville Area for at least five years. (We want nominations that have been invested and/or committed to the Phoenixville Area.)

Additional Consideration: The award will include, but not necessarily be limited to, the following areas:

  • A positive impact of the nominee’s actions on the Phoenixville Area and its residents.

  • The influence upon community residents, organizations, businesses, or borough services and/or activities.

  • The potential for further community impact because of the nominee’s current actions and/or commitment to change.

 

Determination: This award criteria is made by a committee member and approved by majority of the Phoenixville Area Social Concerns Committee members.

 

Presentation: This award will be given annually at the Rev. Dr. Martin L. King Jr. Community Prayer Breakfast by the Chairperson or designee of the Phoenixville Area Social Concerns Committee.

 

Perpetual Representation: This award includes a nameplate containing the award name, recipient’s name and year. The award is of a unique and individualistic design, in the form of a statue, decorative box, framed art, or other stand out artistry determined by the Committee. A permanent plaque with award definition and “as presented by” information plus ample area in which to attach name plates designating each future year’s recipient will be kept up-to date on display in the Phoenixville Municipal Building or Borough Hall.

 

Current members of the Phoenixville Area Social Concerns Committee are not eligible for this award.
