The Ruby Jean Phinnesse Armour “Love Thy Neighbor” Award is created, facilitated and presented by the Phoenixville Area Social Concerns Committee.

 

Guidelines for nominations for this award are attached to this form and are to be used when completing this form.

Please be as specific as possible on this form and attach additional information, if needed.

NOMINATION GUIDELINES

The following are the guidelines used to select the recipient of the “Love Thy Neighbor” Award.

 

The Full Name of the Award

The Ruby Armour “Love Thy Neighbor” Award

Ruby Jean Phinnesse Armour – 1951-2017

Ruby Jean was the wife of Charley A. Armour Sr., Chairman of the Bethel Baptist Church Deacon Board. Ruby and Charley met at an early age and from the beginning, they knew this would be an everlasting bond.

 

Ruby lived in Phoenixville since 1966 and was a devoted member of Bethel Baptist Church where she served as a Deaconess for over 25 years. She taught Sunday School for the youngest children, sang in several choirs, and provided leadership to the Women’s Ministry. She loved the Lord and was faithful in studying His word. Her

favorite scripture was Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”

 

Ruby was a member of the Social Concerns Committee and the Council of Churches. For years to come, Ruby will be remembered for her positive outlook on life, along with her smile and laughter. Ruby’s awards and accomplishments:

 

   ❖ 2004 Citizen Recognition Award

   ❖ 2006 Women of the Year (Bethel Baptist Church)

   ❖ 2016 – Miss Kitty’s Care Award for Exceptional Caregivers

 

Nominations for the award are solicited from faith base organizations or members of the Social Concerns Committee and will include justification information for consideration of this award.

 

Designation of the award recipient will be made after careful review of each nominee’s merits to the full Phoenixville Area Social Concerns Committee by a nominations subcommittee.

Qualifications for the award should be based upon, but not limited to, the following considerations. A nominee will be considered any person, entity or organization that:

  • Has lived or worked in the greater Phoenixville area community for at least five years;

  • Has exerted caring community leadership;

  • Has lived/worked through faith-based principles;

  • Has demonstrated a positive attitude in the course of their community work on behalf of social justice;

  • Has faced life challenges with a positive attitude and good cheer;

  • Has been a role model for others to emulate;

  • Must be nominated by a faith-based organization or the Social Concerns Committee.

 

Additional Consideration for the award will include, but not necessarily be limited to, the following areas:

 

  • The positive impact of the nominee’s actions on the Phoenixville community, its residents, and/or its quality of living;

  • The history of the nominee’s involvement in the community;

  • The influence upon community residents, organizations, businesses, or borough services by the nominee; the type of action, involvement and influence on the community by the nominee;

  • The potential for further community impact as a result of the nominee’s current actions;

  • Current members of the Phoenixville Area Social Concerns Committee are not eligible for this award.

 

Determination of the award criteria is made by an appointed subcommittee of the Phoenixville Area Social Concerns Committee and approved by the Social Concerns Committee members.

 

Presentation of the award will be made on an annual basis at the Community Prayer Breakfast by the Chairperson or designee of the Social Concerns Committee.

 

Representation of this award shall include a certificate containing the award name, recipient’s name, year, and “as presented by” information, plus a cash gift.
