Phoenixville, PA — January 23, 2025 — In the spirit of unity and justice exemplified by Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., the Phoenixville Area Social Concerns Committee welcomed over xxx nonprofit, civic, and faith-based leaders to its Martin Luther King, Jr. Leadership Gathering on Wednesday evening, January 22, at First United Methodist Church of Phoenixville.
The evening featured a community spaghetti supper, conversation, and connection among a
diverse group of local leaders and changemakers. Organized to foster new relationships and
strengthen existing ones, the gathering served as a catalyst for collaboration and shared vision in the year ahead.
“Our goal was simple—bring people together who care about this community,” said Kris Keller of the Social Concerns Committee. “We believe meaningful change starts with relationships rooted in trust.”
Rev. Mark Young, also a committee member, added, “In a world that often feels divided, events like this remind us that we are stronger when we sit at the same table, listen to one another, and move forward with a shared commitment to justice and compassion.”
As part of the program, attendees reflected on a Statement of Community Affirmation, originally read at a local peace vigil, affirming a shared commitment to dignity, accountability, and the common good.
The Phoenixville Area Social Concerns Committee has spent the past thirty years building
bridges in the community through dialogue, hospitality, and acts of justice inspired by Dr. King's legacy. The MLK Leadership Gathering continues that tradition, offering hope and connection at a time when both are deeply needed.
