Phoenixville has a proud history of honoring Juneteenth, with community celebrations held in the 1990s and early 2000s and revived in 2020. Originally planned as a community festival, the first modern commemoration was transformed into a weeklong virtual event due to Covid restrictions, led by local nonprofits.
In 2021, the celebration returned in person on Bridge Street, bringing the community together with food, live music, children’s storytelling, theatre, and more. Hosted by Diversity in Action, Black Light Projects, and Orion Communities, the event uplifted African American history and culture while creating a space for unity and reflection.
